Another year ending. Once again we are in the sta-
ge of conclusions, personal and group balances,
making accounts, and renewing good wishes phra-
ses for the new year that is about to begin. The
force of habit makes us see the bad things of the
year that is ending, and exalt the future, longing
for well-being, prosperity, wealth and success for
the one to come.
The Benedictine monk Mamerto Menapace said
“……my perception as I get older is that there are no
bad years. There are years of strong learning and
others that are like a break, but they are not bad. I
firmly believe that the way a year should be evalua-
ted would have more to do with how much we were
able to love, forgive, laugh, learn new things, have
challenged our egos…”
We tend to call everything that limits our power
“destiny”. But we must understand that our will di-
rects our future, and that we will have the future
that we have deserved for our activities; we must
not wait and wait, we must wait while moving, fa-
cing the difficulties that everyday life presents us,
and getting involved from within, not giving opi-
nions from outside.
We must learn to see responsibility as an instance
of growth. Work, whether paid or not, dignifies the
soul and spirit, and is good for our health and men-
tal peace of mind. We must develop our willpower
to develop social activities by and for others.
From the board of directors of the Argentine Orni-
thological Federation, we fervently wish them to be
able to part of that, as the monk Mamerto Mena-
pace transmits; manage to be the ones who direct
your own destiny, get involved in the activity that
makes you happy, and be surrounded by the love
of your families and loved ones, for a great 2023
for all of you, our most sincere affection.
